Patient Stories Series
(No. 20)
Growing up was hard for Renelle Avi C. Cabrieto and his three siblings. When their parents separated during his teen years, their family life was challenged in many areas — most especially in their finances.
Renelle completed a vocational course, which saw him shuttling from Rizal Province to Manila. Thereafter, he stopped schooling altogether, and sought employment as a call center agent in a business process outsourcing (BPO) company.
Assigned in the night shift, he observed that this affected his body clock, which consequently resulted in his erratic sleeping pattern, affecting his overall health. He was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in February 2018. This was a major setback for him, more so because he did not know how to access medical assistance.

It was in the same year that Renelle was enrolled as an EPCALM patient. During the intake process to initial gather his personal information, he was generally guarded, and gave cautious responses. However, as his participation in the Foundation’s regular activities became more regular, he gradually opened up, trusting that he was in a safe environment.
He has found love and solace with Camay, his wife. They had been in a long-term relationship until they tied the knot in November 2022. They now live in Balintawak, Quezon City.
While Renelle has accepted life the way it has unfolded, Renelle still longs for healing from deep emotional wounds. He appreciates the many blessings of the present, especially the spiritual and medical assistance of EPCALM, and looks forward to a much brighter tomorrow, and someday be completely healed from adult leukemia.
Life is hard, he said. But with God, all things are possible. And he looks forward to the day when he will be well again—to experience being a father to his children. (By Jelyn A. Levantino)
