Doctor: Exposure to chemicals, stressful life common denominators among leukemia patients
#Agenda | Exposure to chemicals and stressful life are the common denominators among leukemia patients, according to Dr. Erlyn Cabanag-Demerre of EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines.
"Teenagers, you know, don't sleep well, don't eat well. They're just living a life that they think there's no tomorrow... If it's detected early and maybe treatment is initiated early, we can probably change the course of leukemia," Demerre says.
Meanwhile, PCSI executive director Dr. Rachael Marie Rosario cited a study that shows 70% of Filipino cancer patients become indigent after undergoing months of treatment. Marking September as World Leukemia Awareness Month, she stresses the need to promote awareness of cancer.
