PATIENT JOURNALS Lessons Learned Series - No. 52

His persistent weakness and other health concerns eventually led to a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Reynan Q. Cañelas, 26, had to face physical and emotional challenges each day with fearless faith
Reynan’s journey taught us that a person’s strength is not measured only by the outcome of an illness, but by the courage with which the journey is faced.
His experience also taught the importance of love, companionship, and accepting support during difficult times. His partner, Justine, remained steadfast beside him, while family, friends, healthcare providers, and the EPCALM community became part of his support system.
His journey reminded us that even when circumstances cannot be changed, we can still choose how we respond—with courage, faith, love, and the willingness to take one more step.
Reynan passed away on 30 September 2026, leaving behind a life that was much more than his leukemia diagnosis. His journey may have been shorter than anyone hoped, but it was not without meaning.
May his story remind other leukemia patients and their families to cherish each day, hold on to the people who walk beside them, accept help when it is offered, and never allow a diagnosis to take away hope.
For EPCALM, it was a privilege to walk alongside Reynan during part of his journey—and to remember him not simply as a patient, but as a person whose life mattered.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
As a non-stock, non-profit organization, EPCALM Foundation relies on the generosity of compassionate individuals and organizations to bring hope and meaningful support to adults living with leukemia and their families. Beyond the physical challenges of the disease, patients often face overwhelming financial, emotional, and spiritual burdens. No one should have to face these challenges alone.
Your donation can make a life-changing difference. It helps us extend essential assistance, provide comfort in times of uncertainty, and remind leukemia patients and their families that they are not forgotten—that there are people who care and are willing to walk alongside them throughout their journey.
Every gift, regardless of its amount, brings us one step closer to making hope possible. Together, we can ease their burdens, strengthen their resolve, and help them face each new day with renewed courage and faith.
Will you join us in giving hope to our leukemia warriors?
