Patient Stories Series
(No. 36)
The journey of Rolly B. Franco, 34, with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a profound testament to the preciousness of life and the power of faith.
Diagnosed in 2018 after experiencing severe weight loss, physical lumps, blurred vision, and an enlarged spleen, he sought medical attention in San Fernando and Arayat, Pampanga, where he comes from. Following a series of tests, including a BCR-ABL test in October 2024.
BCR/ABL refers to a genetic fusion that plays a crucial role in certain types of leukemia, particularly CML. The tests showed results toward remission. Since then, he has maintained a diligent treatment regimen of daily oral chemo meds and monthly monitoring.

Rolly credits his progress to a strong support system comprising his family, friends, cancer support groups, government welfare programs, and organizations like EPCALM. He views these resources as instruments of God’s provision, allowing him to maintain the faith necessary for healing.
He often reflects on his mother’s pivotal advice: “Do not think about the disease; persist on treatment, and live.”
Today, Rolly is focused on rebuilding his career by starting a business in rice and gasoline retail. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire others to recognize that every life is blessed and that, through the Lord’s grace, anyone can champion their own journey toward recovery. (By Ma. Genella P.
