EPCALM Family Huddle: Celebrating life, strengthening faith, and sharing hope

The EPCALM Foundation brought together its serviced patients for a Family Huddle on 31 October 2026 at The EPCALM House, providing a meaningful day of fellowship, entertainment, prayer, and encouragement. Some patients came dressed in fun and creative costumes, adding a festive touch to the gathering, and making the occasion even more memorable.

The program opened with community singing, followed by a prayer for God's blessings amid life's challenges, and for continued spiritual and physical strength. One of the highlights was the testimony of Jessieca A. Macam, who shared her experience of undergoing chemotherapy while pregnant, and eventually giving birth. Her story inspired fellow patients with its powerful message of courage, faith, and perseverance, demonstrating that even amid the uncertainties and challenges of cancer treatment, hope can prevail.
A special healing prayer was offered for patients needing blood products, those currently confined in hospitals, those praying for recovery, complete healing and remission, and those with other personal intentions. Pastor Bennie Lagos, EPCALM Spiritual Care Director, also shared a timely reflection, providing spiritual guidance, comfort, and renewed hope to everyone present.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGES. Meanwhile, Nikki Tang, a member of the EPCALM Honorary Board of Trustees, shared insights on wellness and beauty, encouraging patients to maintain a positive mindset and pursue overall well-being. Her message underscored the importance of caring for oneself, and nurturing a healthy outlook despite the challenges of living with leukemia.
In his message to the patients, Engr. Justice Demerre, EPCALM President and CEO, emphasized the importance of Family Huddles as opportunities for patients and their families to strengthen relationships, share experiences, and encourage one another. He reiterated that no one should have to face the leukemia journey alone.
Dr. Erlyn P. Cabanag-Demerre, EPCALM Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees, likewise encouraged patients to remain steadfast in their faith, face life's daily challenges with resilience, and continue their leukemia journey with hope and trust in God.
Addressing the patients' medical concerns, Dr. Catherine Rosales, hematologist and Director of the EPCALM Medical Service Arm, entertained questions and inquiries about treatment protocols, available medical pathway options, and other concerns related to their care. Her interaction provided patients with an opportunity to seek clarification and gain a better understanding of their treatment and healthcare options.

FUN & ENTERTAINMENT. Adding to the fun and excitement were interactive games and the presentation of patients in their creative costumes. Cash prizes and gift packs were awarded to the winners, while all patients received Hope Packs containing grocery items as tokens of the Foundation's continuing care and support.
The Foundation extends its heartfelt appreciation to all donors, partners, and supporters whose generosity helped make the gathering possible. Special acknowledgments go to the following: Dr. Mario Panaligan; Corbridge Philippines; Bandwell Pharmaceutical; Green Cross; Cutting Edge; Connie Ancheta/ Zenith Medical Equipment Inc.; Ruby Carbungco; Mega Prime Foods Inc.; Jaime So; Dr. Erlyn C. Demerre; and Nikki Tang/ D’Mark Beauty.
More than just a social gathering, the October Family Huddle was an occasion to celebrate life, nurture friendships, strengthen faith, and renew hope. Through shared experiences, prayers, meaningful conversations, and simple gestures of generosity, EPCALM continues to foster a supportive, family-centered community where patients are reminded that they are valued, cared for, and never alone in their journey.
Together, we find strength in faith, encouragement in one another, and hope for better days ahead. (By Marral June P. Lico)
