This is the inspiring story of Alvin S. Mendoza, a 30-year-old living with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) since January 2021. Despite his diagnosis, Alvin remains a cornerstone of his family, caring for his elderly parents, supporting his sisters, and providing emotional strength to his nieces.
Alvin attributes his resilience to two core virtues: strength and faith in the Lord. He carries these values with him in every aspect of his life—from his previous work as a waiter to his current role as a source of support for his loved ones.
When his family was first shocked by his diagnosis, it was their collective faith that helped them navigate the most difficult stages of his treatment.
Throughout his journey, Alvin has been supported by the CML Warriors community in Pampanga. They provided him with medication, which they sourced from generous sponsors, guided him toward financial assistance agencies, and introduced him to Dr. Jomell C. Julian, a dedicated hematologist.
Grateful for this support, Alvin now pays it forward by sharing his knowledge, faith, and humor with his fellow CML patients to make their battles with leukemia feel lighter.
Alvin’s mission is to spread awareness that leukemia is treatable. Through the EPCALM Foundation, of which he has been a member since May 2024, his advocacy is to share that no one has to face this leukemia journey alone.
