PATIENT JOURNALS Lessons Learned Series - No. 24

Updated: Jan 14

Life was definitely wrought with challenges when Dennis L. Ballon was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in August 2010.

Through the help of his “village of support systems”, led by his indefatigable wife, Shiela, Dennis has been benefitted by vital programs and services, including spiritual nourishment. Little by little, through the EPCALM Foundation, help came in the form of free chemo drugs, and more involvement in person-to-person engagements, among interventions.

Despite their circumstances, he has managed to move forward with his family, which has been his bedrock of stability; through their bonding moments, they have become more closely knit.

Dennis is grateful that with everybody’s help and support, he has been able to religiously take his maintenance medications. “Life is so precious. Let’s make it worthwhile,’ he said.
