Patient Stories Series

(No. 30)

Editho G. Mula, affectionately known as Tatay Editho, has been courageously fighting chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) since March 2020. A devoted husband to Liza and a father of four from Butuan City, Tatay Editho has spent his life working tirelessly as a tailor, surveyor, and steelman to provide for his family, often surviving on only a few hours of sleep to put his children through college.

His health struggles began when his body finally gave out after years of rigorous labor. Following a diagnosis at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), Tatay Editho was placed on palliative care and requires lifelong treatment. While the financial burden is significant, he and his family remain steadfast in their faith, seeking assistance through government agencies, such as the Offices of the President and Vice President, and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), among others.

Despite his illness and the additional medical challenges facing two of his children—Guylie, who is oxygen-dependent, and Romeo, who is recovering from kidney surgery—Tatay Editho remains a beacon of strength. He continues to find strength in his faith and his role as a grandfather, husband, and father.

He continues to cherish time with his wife, children, and grandson, Gie, guided by his motto, "Laban lang tayo" (Keep fighting). They now live in Barangay South Signal, Taguig City. He believes that as long as we continue to fight for the gift of life, we remain blessed.

We share Tatay Editho’s journey as a testament to his enduring spirit, and the importance of continued support for those navigating complex medical conditions. (By Ma. Genella P. Flores)
