Patient Stories Series

(No. 23)

Growing up in Angeles City, Pampanga, Armie A. Maglalang had to face many health issues. Nonetheless, she thrived despite these challenges, and became a public school teacher. During her teens, her father passed, leaving her mother to raise three children on her own.

She lives alone in their family compound in Angeles. Her mother and younger sister are now in the U.S., while her older brother lives with his family in Dubai. She exudes a quiet, silent demeanor, and prefers to be shy away from social life.

In November 2020, she was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia. It was during this time of despair and frustration that she turned over her life to God in trusting obedience.

In her moments of prayer and meditation, she said she felt the peace, comfort and solace of the Almighty. Gradually, her prayers were being answered—people started to show up, sharing their resources and blessings with her.

They showered her with love and attention.  She attends face-to-face activities of EPCALM, where she feels recharged, reignited. She always looking forward to the next event.

“Leukemia is a gift from God,” she said. “It is not a punishment. God loves me unconditionally.”

Armie offers her profuse gratitude to Him every day—for taking her in His arms, and taking care of her. “I am not alone anymore.”

Everything about her has changed, most especially her outlook in life. Today, Armie feels fulfilled, ready to face the challenges of life ahead. (By Glenda E. Tanudtanud, with Ma. Genella P. Flores)
