Patient Stories Series
(No. 35)
Leukemia patients frequently face physical symptoms such as fatigue, infection, and bone pain, alongside emotional challenges like depression and family disruption. Managing these difficulties is essential for the well-being of both patients and their families.
Standard treatment protocols emphasize a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, hydration, gentle exercise, and adequate rest. It is also critical for patients to avoid infection risks, manage their mental health, adhere strictly to treatment plans, and consult regularly with healthcare professionals to personalize their care.

Adrian Pol M. Intal, a 24-year-old from Sta. Maria, Minalin, Pampanga, and living with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), attributes his progress to following his doctor’s treatment plan. While he acknowledges the difficulty of adherence, he emphasizes that a positive mindset is vital for healing. When faced with challenges, Adrian relies on prayer and his faith.
Since his diagnosis, Adrian has shown consistent improvement in his laboratory results, noting only one regression when medication was missed during the pandemic. Due to his successful adherence to his protocol, he now manages a daily commute, participates in sports, and maintains an active academic and social life.
He encourages fellow patients to remain optimistic and turn to the Lord for guidance and provision. (By Ma. Genella P. Flores)
