EPCALM-serviced patients gathered at the EPCALM House in Quezon City over the past weekend, (25 April 2026) for a therapeutic macrame keychain crafting session.
The EPCALM Foundation utilizes crafting therapy to promote mental well-being, reduce stress, and enhance self-expression among adult leukemia patients. Unlike traditional verbal therapy, this hands-on approach allows participants to focus on the present moment and experience a sense of accomplishment through creation.
The repetitive motions involved in macrame are particularly effective in activating the parasympathetic nervous system, fostering a meditative state and lowering stress levels.

This session builds on our past diverse creative activities, which have included macrame wall art, decoupaged wine bottles and recycled boxes, pop tab bracelets, crocheted friendship bracelets, tissue roll wall art, and even a basic art tutorial conducted by Nandy Lazy of the Fernando Amorsolo Art Foundation Inc.
These gatherings serve as a vital source of emotional expression, cognitive support, and social connection for our patients and their families. The focus of these sessions at the EPCALM House remains on the creative process rather than perfection, providing a safe space for our serviced patients to explore and enjoy the healing power of art.
