The EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines joined fellow members of the Blood Cancer Alliance of the Philippines (BCAP) yesterday in supporting its partner organization, the Philippine College of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (PCHTM), during the opening of its 7th Annual Convention, being held from 6 to 9 September at the Edsa Shangri-La Manila.

Held in observance of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, pursuant to Proclamation No. 1833, the convention brings together healthcare professionals and stakeholders to advance greater understanding of blood cancers and blood disorders.

A highlight of the opening day was the unveiling of the BCAP Booth, anchored on this year’s convention theme, “Synergy.” At its center is The Red Thread Project—a meaningful installation connecting photographs and stories of blood cancer patients represented by BCAP member organizations.

The Red Thread Project. The red threads symbolize the powerful connections among patients, families, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, advocates, donors, and communities. Each photograph represents a life. Each story represents a journey.

And every thread reminds us that no patient should have to face blood cancer alone. Every thread connects a story. Every story carries hope. And through synergy, we can achieve more. The installation will be on display until 9 September 2026.

The BCAP brings together patient organizations committed to advancing support, awareness, and advocacy for people affected by blood cancers. Its members are EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines, Kanser sa Adolescents and Young Adults (KAYA), Lymphoma Awareness Philippines, Myelofibrosis Awareness and Support Philippines, and Myeloma Support for Patient Empowerment Access and Knowledge (MyeSPEAK).

World Leukemia Awareness Month. For EPCALM, the month of September has been a significant period of heightened leukemia awareness and advocacy since 2015. It is an opportunity to amplify the voices of adult leukemia patients and their families, deepen public understanding of the disease, and call for greater compassion, support, and access to care.

Throughout the month, EPCALM shines a light on the realities of living with leukemia; honors the courage of patients and survivors; recognizes the families, healthcare professionals, blood donors, volunteers, partners, and advocates who walk alongside them; and encourages everyone to turn awareness into meaningful action.

But awareness must not end when September does. For patients and their families, leukemia is lived every day. And EPCALM remains committed to walking alongside them—not only during Awareness Month, but throughout their journey, providing compassionate support, strengthening connections, and helping keep hope alive.

Because when we are connected by compassion, strengthened by synergy, and united by hope, no one has to walk alone. /MPD
