Blood cancer awareness: Know the signs; seek care early

On the occasion of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health (DOH) has highlighted that approximately 33 Filipinos are diagnosed with blood cancer every day, with nearly 60 per cent of cases detected at advanced stages, often because patients seek medical attention only when symptoms have become more serious.

Early consultation can make a difference. If you experience persistent or recurring fever, swollen lymph nodes, unexplained bruising or bleeding, unusual fatigue, or other persistent symptoms, consult the nearest primary care facility or hospital. Do not wait for symptoms to worsen before seeking medical attention.

The DOH also provides access to various cancer-related assistance and support programs.

Scan the QR Code or visit the DOH Cancer Support link, https://linktr.ee/DOHCancerSupport to learn more about available services, including the PhilHealth Z Benefits, the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP), the Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF), and the Cancer Support and Palliative Medicine Access Program (CSPMAP).

The resource also provides information on DOH hospitals and their hotlines, as well as the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service (BUCAS) Centers nationwide, which provide free outpatient and urgent care services for qualified indigent patients.

Know the warning signs. Consult early. Know where to seek help. Early action can save lives.
