Marlene A. Laylo is a 67-year-old long-time patient of the EPCALM Foundation. Diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in October 2014 and initially given only three years to live, Marlene continues to thrive today through God’s grace and the exceptional support of her family.Residing in Batangas, Marlene travels quarterly to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City for medical consultations and blood tests, which consistently show positive results. Her four children have established a highly effective support system to manage her healthcare. They coordinate her safe transportation, accompany her to appointments, and manage the logistics of her oral chemotherapy.
This systematic approach is fueled by open communication and a deep commitment to her well-being. Beyond her medical needs, Marlene’s visits to Quezon City serve as cherished opportunities for family reunions and celebrations with her children and grandchildren. This demonstrates how a strong, functional family system is a vital factor in a patient’s successful healing journey.
