Stars Align and Hearts Unite: EPCALM’s ‘The Hope Gala 2026’ Triumphs

The Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort North, Quezon City was transformed into a sanctuary of music and compassion on Sunday, 17 May 2026, as the EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines held its landmark benefit dinner-concert, “The Hope Gala 2026.”

Bringing together the biggest names in Philippine entertainment and the country's most generous philanthropists, the evening served as a powerful fundraiser to support adult leukemia patients and their families.

A Dialogue of Hope and Leadership.  One of the most poignant moments of the evening occurred when the "King of Talk," Boy Abunda, took to the stage for an insightful interview with the Foundation's leadership: Dr. Erlyn Cabanag-Demerre, EPCALM Chairman and Founder; and Engr. Justice Demerre, EPCALM President and CEO.

During the discussion, Dr. Erlyn shared the profound 21-year journey of the Foundation, emphasizing the holistic "Grief to Grace" approach. Engr. Justice highlighted the Foundation's vision for sustainability and the critical importance of resource development to ensure that no adult Filipino faces leukemia alone.

A Surprise Tribute: "You Are My Song." In a lighthearted turn of events, "Concert King" Martin Nievera joined the group and playfully switched roles with Abunda, attempting to "interview" the legendary host. However, the atmosphere shifted from humor to deep emotion as the tables were turned.

Abunda surprised Nievera with a Special Thanksgiving Tribute, in recognition of the singer's years of unwavering advocacy for the Foundation. In the most touching moment of the night, a group of EPCALM’s leukemia patients took to the stage. With voices filled with gratitude and resilience, the patients serenaded Nievera with his own iconic hit, "You Are My Song." There was hardly a dry eye in the ballroom as the "Concert King" was visibly moved by the tribute from the very individuals the Foundation serves.

International Star Power. The evening reached another breathtaking crescendo when international singing sensation and American Idol alumna and current champion of America’s Got Talent (Season 20), Jessica Sanchez, appeared as a surprise guest. In a rare and moving collaboration, Sanchez and Nievera performed a soul-stirring duet of the Filipino classic, "Ikaw," leaving the audience in awe.

The night also featured world-class performances by Pops Fernandez, Vina Morales, and Jed Madela.

Every Note for a Cause.  Marking over two decades as a beacon of hope, EPCALM remains the only non-profit organization in the Philippines dedicated specifically to adult leukemia. All proceeds from the sold-out event will be funneled directly into EPCALM’s core services:

  • Medical and Financial Assistance: Aiding with treatment and diagnostic costs.

  • The Spiritual Arm: Providing chaplaincy, grief counseling, and emotional support.

  • The EPCALM House: Maintaining the facility in New Manila, Quezon City for transient patients and therapy sessions.

As the curtains closed, the message was clear: In the face of a daunting diagnosis, hope — fueled by community, leadership, and song — is the most powerful medicine of all.
