Patient Stories Series

(No. 37)

Camello DLC Raagas, a 33-year-old father, has been battling chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) since 2018. Despite his diagnosis, he expresses that his greatest struggle is not the illness itself, but the daily challenge of overcoming poverty to provide for his two children.

His life has been marked by hardship. Following his parents' separation, he began working at a young age to support his family, often enduring 12-hour shifts, with minimal rest.

After experiencing severe fatigue and abdominal pain in 2018, he was diagnosed with CML. This condition requires lifelong medication and the avoidance of strenuous labor, which resulted in the loss of his stable employment. He now relies on short-term encoding projects to survive.

In August 2023, Camello’s health reached a critical point, leading to a month-long hospitalization. He is currently undergoing a series of four chemotherapy sessions and has been prescribed a new medication, Dasatinib.

Due to financial constraints, he has only been able to maintain only one out of five medications.  Nevertheless, he remains hopeful and credits his faith for his continued survival.

Camello is seeking financial provision for his ongoing medical treatment and full recovery. He also remains an advocate for his fellow patients, praying that they find the strength to maintain a healthy lifestyle and cherish each day.

Thank you for keeping Camello in your thoughts and for any support you can provide. (By Ma. Genella P. Flores)
