Patient Stories Series

(No. 26)

The story of Dwayne Raedhen N. Cabel is one of courage and resilience. At 24, he is an online graphic designer from General Santos City in South Cotabato. His journey is a testament to hope and dogged faith – gritty, enduring.

A talented scholar and graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, Dwayne was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in October 2019. Despite the rigors of multiple chemotherapy cycles, he has remained steadfast in his ambitions.  Despite the devastating news of his diagnosis, he faced multiple cycles of chemotherapy with an unyielding spirit., successfully graduating from college in 2021.

He thus began his professional career as a graphic designer for a U.S.-based company. He has never allowed leukemia to overshadow his dreams

By 2023, even while enduring another round of treatment, Dwayne secured a position as a graphic designer for Fresh Prints. This role had allowed him to work from home and contribute meaningfully to his family’s finances.

Unfortunately, Dwayne suffered a relapse in November 2024. He is currently battling severe complications, including pneumonia and the physical and mental toll of ongoing treatment. His family has relocated to Manila to support him, and together with the EPCALM Foundation, we are working toward his best chance for recovery: a bone marrow transplant.

Dwayne and his family continue to hold onto hope and God’s grace during this difficult time. We invite you to join us in supporting Dwayne as he continues his fight to live and thrive. (By Sr. Minerva F. Jumawid)
